Junaid Kamal Ahmad is the Vice President of Operations at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group (WBG). His career is defined by high-level strategic leadership in global finance and development, with a core mission to mobilize private finance for impactful projects in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs).
Ahmad's extensive tenure at the World Bank Group began in 1991 as a Young Professional, leading programs in diverse regions including Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. He served as the Country Director for the World Bank in India and was the first Senior Director of the Bank’s Water Global Practice, where he initiated and oversaw multi-billion-dollar sector and country programs covering finance, infrastructure, and human development. This experience underscores his profound expertise in delivering development impact at scale.
His strategic leadership extended to the highest levels of the World Bank Group, where he served as Chief of Staff to the President. Prior to joining the WBG, he worked in the Planning Commission, Government of Bangladesh, focusing on trade and industrial policy. Ahmad’s academic rigor is formidable, holding a BA in Economics from Brown University, a 2-year MPA from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Stanford University.
