Jamling Tenzing Norgay is a celebrated mountaineer, adventurer, and the son of Everest pioneer Tenzing Norgay. Following in his father’s footsteps, he is himself a conqueror of the summit, carrying on the ancient family legacy of Sherpas. His talks deliver a thrilling narrative that combines his own story with episodes from the inaugural 1953 expedition, providing profound lessons in resilience, teamwork, and self-reliance under conditions of ultimate adversity.
Norgay’s presentations are uniquely inspiring, drawing on anecdotes such as crossing crevasses with the bark of trees and the unspoken collaboration between his father and Sir Edmund Hillary, who spent two months together without a common language. He inspires admiration for the skills of self-reliance and teamwork, and encourages audiences to ‘adapt and change’ to meet life’s challenges. He is a member of a living dynasty of climbers, with 11 of his relatives having summited Mount Everest.
Beyond his personal accomplishment, Norgay helped capture the Everest experience on film, starring in Director David Breashears’ IMAX film Everest. This film, dubbed the “Titanic of Documentaries,” depicted not only the physical challenges but also the mental and spiritual challenges faced by the climbers, showcasing the selflessness exhibited by the climbers in risking their lives to save their fellow companions during a sudden storm.
Today, Norgay runs his adventure travel company, Tenzing Norgay Adventures, in Darjeeling, India, continuing the family legacy by guiding novices and experts alike. He has also been instrumental in philanthropic causes, bringing much-needed social services to remote Himalayan villages. His sessions provide corporate audiences with a powerful, motivational message about pushing the thresholds of physical and mental limitations to achieve seemingly impossible goals.
