She received the 2014 International Women of Courage award from US First Lady Michelle Obama, was chosen as the NDTV Indian of the Year, and was awarded the prestigious Mother Teresa Award in 2018. She has also challenged social stereotypes by becoming the face of several fashion brands, including Viva N Diva, after undergoing numerous reconstructive surgeries.
