VVS Laxman

Former Cricketer & Head of Cricket, NCA; Padma Shri & Arjuna Awardee; Expert in High-Stakes Performance

V. V. S. Laxman is a legendary Indian cricketer and a leading expert on high performance, teamwork, and mental resilience in high-stakes environments. A mainstay in India’s Test middle order for over a decade, he is best known for his iconic, match-winning 281-run knock against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001—widely regarded as one of the greatest innings in Test cricket history. His ability to turn around matches earned him the reputation as a “crisis man” for Team India.

Laxman’s technical prowess was sublime, marked by his wristy, willowy, and sinuous stroke play that earned him over 8,000 Test runs. His career spanned 16 years, during which he was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year (2002). The 281-run innings he played against Australia not only showcased his skill but ushered in a new era of Indian dominance in Test cricket. His resilience was most famously demonstrated when he conjured a magical unbeaten 73 in a thrilling run-chase in Mohali, batting with a runner due to back spasms.

Post-retirement, Laxman successfully transitioned into key leadership and coaching roles. He is now the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he is actively nurturing the next generation of talent. He also served as a mentor for the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and is a member of the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee. This continued service to the sport underscores his commitment to leadership development and excellence.

As a highly popular motivational speaker, the recipient of the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri inspires audiences with his insights on Building High Performance Teams and how to develop a Winning Mindset. His presentations provide deep, practical insights into achieving peak performance in high-stakes environments, focusing on the core principles of composure, humility, and strategic focus that defined his legendary career.
