Falguni Nayar is an Indian entrepreneur who founded Nykaa in 2012 and transformed a fragmented beauty market into a national omnichannel brand. Her company, FSN E-Commerce Ventures (Nykaa), moved from a startup to a blockbuster public listing, changing how millions of Indian consumers discover and buy beauty and personal-care products.
Before Nykaa, Nayar spent nearly two decades in investment banking at Kotak Mahindra, where she led M&A and institutional equities businesses; she is an alumna of IIM Ahmedabad. She launched Nykaa with personal capital and a patient, category-first strategy that combined curated content, retailer partnerships and an emphasis on assortment and trust.
Under her stewardship Nykaa built a hybrid model of ecommerce and branded retail stores, pursued selective private-label brands and positioned itself as one of India’s rare profitable unicorns at listing. The company’s IPO and subsequent market performance elevated Nayar into the ranks of India’s wealthiest self-made women and focused attention on founder-led retail scaling in India.
As a speaker she speaks from operational authority—on brand economics, founder transitions, category creation and the governance challenges of scaling a consumer business in public markets. Her perspective is frequently framed around product-market fit for mass consumers, measured risk-taking, and the early choices that determine long-term brand equity.
