Palki Sharma Upadhyay is a television journalist and editor known for translating complex international affairs into clear, narrative-driven broadcasts. She built a visible profile as the presenter of WION’s flagship international show and later as a senior editorial voice at Network18/Firstpost, combining field reporting with studio interrogation of geopolitics and policy.
Her career began in public broadcasting and moved through print and television — Doordarshan, Hindustan Times, CNN-News18 and then WION — where she anchored prime-time programs that reached audiences outside India and inside. Her on-camera style leans on evidence-led argument and a refusal of theatricality; viewers and critics have repeatedly noted the programmatic focus on factual, contextual explanation.
In September 2022 she resigned from WION amid wider changes at the channel; subsequent moves brought her to roles with Network18/Firstpost and new formats for debate and long-form interviews. Her Oxford Union address and other high-visibility appearances sharpened an editorial persona that foregrounds India’s global trajectory and the trade-offs of soft power, economic policy and security.
Her transition out of WION was not without controversy: WION raised legal objections about post-resignation employment and alleged proprietary concerns, a dispute that received judicial scrutiny. As a speaker and moderator she now frames debates around media responsibility, strategic foresight for rising powers, and how journalists balance access with accountability.
